Wizdary: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord is a remake of the Apple II original that was released to Steam, Switch and PlayStation earlier this year. It was one of the world’s first party-orientated RPG games and helped set many of the staples of the genre as well as now being available for a new audience to discover. Publisher Clear River Games has picked up the Digital Eclipse-developed title and will be releasing physical editions to Switch and PlayStation 5 on 21 November 2024. The standard physical release is now available for pre-order from the usual retailers.

The game itself is a full 3D remake that includes an abundance of quality-of-life features over the original mechanics. It keeps the original game hidden underneath, just applying new audio and visual updates. Wizdary: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord has garnered favourable reviews from critics and players with many commenting on how great it is to see a remake that doesn’t detract from the original in almost every department. The same battle mechanics are present but have been speeded up for quicker play and the party management, navigation, spellcasting, and combat have all been significantly enhanced.
