Vroom is a racing game that was originally released for the 16-bit Atari ST home computer in 1991 before being ported to the Commodore Amiga and PC (MS DOS), and in 2025, some 34 years after its original release, Vroom is set to drive its way back onto Atari hardware with a new release of the game for the 64-bit Atari Jaguar console.
The new Jaguar release of Vroom has been officially licensed from Lankhor, who were the publisher and developer of the original game. The new Atari Jaguar port of the game is being developed by the award-winning Jaguar homebrew coder Lawrence Staveley (AKA CJ Reboot) and it will be published by Songbird Productions, who have over 20 years of experience of publishing new games for old consoles.
The original 16-bit version of Vroom was pretty impressive, so this 64-bit conversion could prove to be something rather special indeed, as we’ll find out when Vroom zooms its way onto for the Atari Jaguar in 2025.
A multiplayer expansion for the original game with the rather literal title of ‘Vroom Multiplayer’ was released for the Atari ST in 1993, but there has been no word on whether this expansion pack will be built into the Atari Jaguar conversion. Let’s hope it is, though, if so you Atari Jaguar fans will be able to get your Vroom on with your pals!
