Upgrade Your GameCube Controller To Wireless with 8BitDo’s New Mod Kit

8BitDo has introduced a new mod kit that allows you to upgrade your old GameCube controller into a wireless, Bluetooth-enabled device. Priced at $26, this solderless kit offers a straightforward way to modernize your controller, making it compatible with the Nintendo Switch and Android devices. The kit includes Hall Effect joysticks, a trigger pack, and a rechargeable 300mAh battery that provides around six hours of gameplay on a single charge. Charging is done via a USB-C port, adding convenience to the setup.

The mod kit replaces the existing printed circuit board (PCB) of the GameCube controller, effectively transforming it into a wireless controller. However, if you want to use it with the original GameCube console, you’ll need to purchase the 8BitDo Retro Receiver separately for an additional $26. This receiver enables the Bluetooth functionality necessary for connecting to the GameCube. While the upgrade eliminates the wired functionality, it offers a modern solution to issues like drifting analog sticks and frayed cords.

This mod kit is part of 8BitDo’s ongoing efforts to enhance retro gaming hardware, having previously released similar kits for other Nintendo controllers. The kit is currently available for pre-order and is expected to ship on September 25, 2024. It provides an innovative alternative for those looking to revive their GameCube controllers without waiting for a perfect WaveBird deal or using adapters like the GBros. adapter.
