Tibia Introduces New Vocation 28 Years Later

After 28 years, the classic MMORPG Tibia is introducing a brand-new vocation called the Monk, marking the game’s first new playable class since its launch in 1997. Developer CipSoft announced the Monk on February 10, 2025, describing it as a melee-focused class with unique support and healing abilities. This addition expands the roster of vocations, which previously included Knight, Paladin, Sorcerer, and Druid.

About the Monk Vocation

  • Combat Style: The Monk specializes in martial arts-based melee combat and serves as a secondary healer, filling a thematic and mechanical gap in Tibia’s existing vocations.

  • Gameplay Role: Designed to complement group dynamics without overshadowing other classes, the Monk provides utility through healing and support while excelling in close-range combat.

  • Unique Mechanics: The Monk introduces new spells, weapons, and gear tailored to its hybrid role. Players can expect powerful fist-fighting techniques and abilities that enhance survivability in both solo and team play.

CipSoft revealed that adding a new vocation was a significant challenge, requiring careful consideration to ensure it fits naturally into Tibia’s world and gameplay. The decision to create another melee class was driven by the game’s current imbalance of three ranged vocations versus one melee vocation. The Monk was chosen over other archetypes like Bard or Rogue due to its versatility and alignment with Tibia’s fantasy setting.

Timeline

  • Playtesting: The first public playtests for the Monk will begin on February 25, 2025, allowing players to experience its mechanics and provide feedback.

  • Full Release: The Monk is slated for release in the second quarter of 2025.

CipSoft plans to release detailed articles, trailers, and lore updates leading up to the Monk’s official launch.
