Thunder Fox, a 1990 run ’n’ gun arcade game from Taito has been confirmed as this week’s Arcade Archives release from Hamster Corp. As usual, this week’s Arcade Archives title will be released digitally on both Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4.
Thunder Fox was previously included on the Taito Legends compilation on PlayStation 2, PC and Xbox, as well as on the recently-released Taito Milestones 3 compilation for Nintendo Switch. However, this new Arcade Archives release of Thunder Fox appears to be the game’s first standalone release on a home format since its Sega Mega Drive/Genesis conversion over 30 years ago, way back in 1991.
You don’t tend to get games with names like “Thunder Fox” much these days, do you? To us at Retro News,” Thunder Fox” is a proper video game name, and one that positively throbs with the promise of excitement and action!
Perhaps slightly disappointingly, the titular “Thunder Fox” is not an anthropomorphic vulpine character with the powers of Thor, but is actually the name an anti-terrorism team battling against a group of very naughty world-taking-over terrorist types in that deliberately vague year of 199X” that was so beloved of many arcade titles of the era.
