Retro publisher EastAsiaSoft has announced Spellagis, a new survival shooter where players take on the role of a mage beset by swarms of blobs, snakes, ghosts, maggots and more. The game has been developed by NipoBox and is part of EastAsiaSoft’s ever-growing range of budget retro titles. It has a clear influence from other survival shooters such as Vampire Saviour and looks to use the same mechanics and gameplay loops. Spellagis is out now for Xbox, Switch and PlayStation and costs just $4.99.
The mage wields his powerful staff, firing magical projectiles, to fend off waves of fiendish enemies in top-down pixel-art arenas using traditional twin-stick mechanics. He then collects the fallen coins to buy items from the shop which helps stack the deck in his favour. Upgrades include spell enhancements and protective summons to food for quick health boosts. Destroying barrels in Spellagis can help find random potions and stacks of precious upgrade coins.
