There has been a recent increase in community-driven ports of popular games to new platforms, aided by skilled hackers who have dissected source code. Notable titles like Zelda, GTA III, and DOOM 64 have seen native versions emerge, and now the Dreamcast is set to receive a port of Super Mario 64.
Developer falco_girgis has shared a video showcasing the game running on the latest GCC 14.1.0 toolchain, though some issues remain, particularly with audio. The project’s performance is strong, despite minor glitches like Z-fighting and audio problems. Super Mario 64, released in 1996, is considered a classic and has previously been ported to the Nintendo DS and made available on the Switch.
Testing out our Super #Mario64 port to the Sega #Dreamcast using the latest GCC 14.1.0 toolchain and the tips of the KallistiOS and GLdc master branches. Performance is fantastic, but we have some Z-fighting and audio issues that need to be sorted out, plus like... Mario looks… pic.twitter.com/YsLL5AFwZc
