Takaya Imamura, the original artist behind the Star Fox series, has expressed his desire to see the GameCube title Star Fox Assault become playable on Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 console. In a social media post commemorating the game’s 20th anniversary on February 14, 2025, Imamura shared an illustration of Fox McCloud holding a submarine, referencing both Star Fox Assault and Steel Diver: Sub Wars—another title he hopes will make its way to the new platform.

Released in 2005, Star Fox Assault was developed by Namco and combined traditional space combat with ground-based missions. While it received mixed reviews at launch, with criticism directed at its on-foot segments, the game has since developed a dedicated fan base. Imamura’s advocacy highlights his commitment to making classic titles more accessible to modern audiences, following similar calls in previous years for ports of Star Fox Zero and other games.
