Square Enix is currently undergoing a company restructuring that will lead to layoffs, impacting the American and European branches.
The full extent of the layoffs has yet to be confirmed, but departments including publishing, IT, and the indie games division will be significantly affected. Employees will receive notifications this week, with UK staff entering a one-month consultancy period and US-based staff potentially departing before June.
These layoffs coincide with the company’s quarterly financial results. Square Enix has announced intentions to rebuild overseas divisions and streamline costs through structural reforms. Takashi Kiryu, the company’s president, is leading the reorganization effort in response to underperforming game sales. In Japan, Square Enix has promoted new creators to executive roles and implemented measures to constrain producers’ influence over projects.
