Shenmue fans around the world will be delighted to hear the announcement that Yu Suzuki’s 2019 title has found a new publishing deal with ININ Games. In 2015, Susuki’s development team, Ys Net, announced the Shenmue III project on Kickstarter, which led to two Guinness World Records, including the fastest $1 million pledged for a crowdfunded game. Shenmue III was released in 2019 for fans all over the world.
Following Ys Net’s previous collaboration with ININ Games on Air Twister, Yu Suzuki and his team seem happy to keep the relationship going with this idea for publishing rights for his well-received Shenmue title. In a press statement, ININ said. “This exciting transfer coincides with two momentous milestones: the 25th anniversary of the Shenmue series and the 5th anniversary of Shenmue III. Since its debut, Shenmue has captivated fans worldwide with its groundbreaking storytelling, immersive open-world gameplay, and its legacy as a pioneer in video game history. Shenmue III continues this tradition, keeping the spirit of the saga alive for a new generation of players.”
With this publishing deal secured, the story of Shenmue is far from over. ININ has further plans to celebrate the recent Shenmue anniversaries and wishes to keep the series alive. It said there will be further announcements in the future.
