Shenmue fans are actively campaigning for a new installment in the series, expressing their strong desire to see protagonist Ryo Hazuki‘s story continue. The Shenmue games, created by Yu Suzuki, have garnered a dedicated fanbase since the first release in 1999 for the Sega Dreamcast. After a successful Kickstarter campaign, Shenmue 3 was released in 2019 for PlayStation 4 and PC, becoming the fastest- and highest-funded video game project in Kickstarter history.
The fan website Shenmue Dojo initiated a campaign, including a billboard in Times Square and the hashtag #LetsGetShenmue4, to show support for Shenmue 4 and raise awareness for a potential partnership with Ys Net, Suzuki’s independent development studio. The campaign, which included a live broadcast of the billboard in Times Square, successfully trended on Twitter and showcased the passionate dedication of Shenmue fans. Shenmue Dojo expressed gratitude to supporters and emphasized their determination to continue advocating for Shenmue 4 until it becomes a reality.
Broadcast live during our #Shenmue Day stream, #LetsGetShenmue4 hit the streets of New York with a full on 15 second advertisement on Times Square! ?️
