Hironobu Sakaguchi, the original creator of Final Fantasy, has expressed his disinterest in returning to the Square Enix series or adapting classic Mistwalker games for new platforms. While he collaborated with Square Enix to launch the mobile RPG Fantasian on consoles, Sakaguchi has indicated a lack of motivation to engage with Final Fantasy once more, noting a transition from creator to consumer. He now focuses on playing Final Fantasy XIV and doubts his ability to fully appreciate it if he were to re-immerse himself in the franchise.
Additionally, Sakaguchi has no intention of remastering earlier Mistwalker games such as Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon, but is contemplating a revival of the mobile strategy game Terra Battle. At 61 years old, Sakaguchi is embarking on a new project with Mistwalker, evident from the recent trademark registration for ‘Fantasian Dark Edge‘.
