Sega has officially announced Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O., a remastered version of the iconic 3D fighting game, set to release on PC via Steam this winter. This marks the first time the Virtua Fighter series will be available on Steam, making it a significant milestone for the franchise. Described as the “ultimate edition” of Virtua Fighter 5, this remaster builds upon the foundations of Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown while introducing a host of new features and improvements.
The game will include rollback netcode, a first for the series, ensuring smoother and more responsive online play for competitive matches. Additionally, Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. will feature enhanced 4K graphics running at up to 60 frames per second, with updated character models, stages, and cinematics. Sega has also incorporated balance adjustments and “returning techniques,” reflecting over a decade of feedback from the game’s dedicated player base.
Players can look forward to battling through classic modes such as Arcade, Training, and Versus, as well as new online features like custom tournaments and leagues that support up to 16 players. A Spectator Mode will also allow fans to watch matches and learn from top players. The roster includes all 19 fighters from previous iterations of Virtua Fighter 5, each with unique fighting styles and customization options for costumes and items.
The remaster is being developed by Sega AM2 and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, known for their work on the Like a Dragon/Yakuza series. While no exact release date has been confirmed, Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. is expected to launch during the northern hemisphere’s winter season. Fans can wishlist the game on Steam now in anticipation of its debut.
