Point-and-click adventures have always been a popular genre, and Casebook 1899: The Leipzig Murders is aiming to emulate the golden era of adventure titles from the 90s. Following a successful Kickstarter campaign back in 2023, German developer Homo Narrans Studio has announced the game will finally be releasing to PC, via Steam and GOG, later this year. There is currently a demo available for those wishing to get a glimpse of what can be expected, but safe to say this is shaping up to be a classic pixel art point-and-click tale.
Casebook 1899: The Leipzig Murders is set in late 18th-century Germany, with players taking on the role of Detective Joseph Kreiser as he tries to solve four murders. He will explore the fog-shrouded streets of Leipzig that have been recreated in beautiful pixel art and have some great atmospheric touches to bring the adventure to life. “The release of Casebook 1899: The Leipzig Murders is an enormous milestone for me personally,” shared solo developer Gregor Müller. “After four years of dedication, learning, and countless late nights, I’m proud to share my first commercial game with the players.”
Players will interrogate witnesses to build a picture of the murder, examine clues to produce leads and use a notebook to keep everything at hand to join the dots. According to the developer, the choices players make while investigating will have an impact on the case outcome. Combining evidence in the notebook could unravel a new lead or uncover other witnesses to talk with.
