Restless Anima: New Horror Game for NES & Dreamcast

Nape Games, a small Spanish studio, has launched a Kickstarter campaign for Restless Anima: Engine Room,” a psychological horror game designed for the NES and Sega Dreamcast. This game draws inspiration from the experiences of its designer, Napoleón Malpica, who spent 13 years as a Merchant Marine Officer. Players will engage in 8-bit action-platformer mechanics, exploring a ship to solve puzzles and confront Animas, creatures rooted in various folklore traditions. The primary tool for survival in this eerie environment is a spanner.

The Kickstarter campaign offers various tiers, starting at €16 ($17) for a digital edition up to €86 ($94) for a physical NES edition. The goal of the campaign is to raise €4,999 ($5,466). If successful, the digital version of the game is slated for release in November 2024, with physical copies following in March 2025.

The narrative kicks off with the protagonist waking up in the engine room, armed with the spanner, which is crucial for both puzzle-solving and self-defense. This project uniquely blends modern game development with the nostalgia of retro gaming, aiming to captivate fans of both classic games and the horror genre.
