This PS4 release comes after the remaster previously launched on PC via Steam in November 2017 and Nintendo Switch in January 2019. The original game first debuted on PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube back in November 2003.
Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy is an action-adventure game inspired by ancient Egyptian mythology, where players control both the demigod Sphinx and the undead mummy Tutankhamun. Sphinx’s gameplay focuses on combat and exploration, while the Mummy’s sections emphasize puzzle-solving and stealth. The game received positive reviews upon its original release, with IGN awarding it an 8.5/10 score, praising its challenging puzzles, impressive graphics, and compelling storyline.
The remaster features updated high-definition graphics, technical fixes including resolution of a game-breaking save bug from the original release, and expanded audio and visual support. For fans of PS2-era action platformers, this revival offers a chance to experience or revisit this cult classic at a reasonable price point.
