Nintendo has made Famicom controllers for the Nintendo Switch available for purchase to all customers through the official Japanese store. Originally restricted to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, these controllers can now be bought by anyone for ¥6,578 (approximately $42 USD) each. Designed to recreate the nostalgic feel of playing on the original Family Computer system, the controllers can be connected to the Switch for charging, much like the standard Joy-Con controllers. However, due to their limited button layout, they are only compatible with games in the Famicom Nintendo Switch Online app and Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition.
Customers can purchase up to four controllers per person, with delivery estimated between two to six days in Japan. While there has been no confirmation of a global release, the US Nintendo website still offers NES Switch controllers for subscribers at $59.99. The Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition game is available on the Nintendo Switch worldwide.
