We recently brought you the news that indie cult classic RPG OFF was making a surprise return to Steam and Switch. The game, due to be released this year, will be given a makeover with an all-new battle system being added as well as additional balancing of the overall gameplay.

Since the announcement, the new release has garnered a wishlist of over 50,000 on Steam and has seen a large amount of pre-orders for the Switch physical edition. Furthermore, the new version of OFF will feature a completely new soundtrack from composer Toby Fox who has cited OFF as an inspiration for many of his own creations. Developer Mortis Ghost could not agree with the original composer Alias Conrad Coldwood so asked Tony if he would be interested in getting involved with the game’s soundtrack alongside Camelia.

Toby Fox said, speaking on the new soundtrack. “I’m gonna be honest, just feels like I got assigned to take a bullet in the back for everybody else. I looked up almost every jazz song from the 1920s, I commissioned Carlos to make an entire fake jazz song for me so I could cut it up into samples, I tried making like six entirely different songs, but nothing I could come up with on my own felt quite right. In the end, I summoned Camellia to help me out by re-remixing my first track into multiple versions, and ultimately I think it will feel pretty cool as you go through the game.”

The full interview with Toby Fox can be found on the official OFF website. The game, subtitled Bad Human Edition, can still be pre-ordered for those wanting a Switch edition and of course, the Steam wishlist will just continue to grow which just underlines how important this cult classic is to so many gamers around the world.
