This Saturday sees the Nintendo World Championships NES Edition Streamer Showdown, an event based on Nintendo’s recent Switch title Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition, a game which offers gamers across the world the chance to experience online NES speedruning contests in the style of the in-person American Nintendo World Championship contests of the 1990s, with the game including cut-down versions of NES classics designed to offer bite-sized speedrunning challenges.
Now, Nintendo are using the game to revive in-person NES speedrunning contests. Because this Saturday (26th October 2024), as part of Paris Games Week, eight players from across Europe will head to the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles to compete in the Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition Streamer Showdown on the main Grande Scène stage.
In the contest, two groups of four will battle it out on the game’s NES Cup ’88-‘93 Challenge Pack, with the top two in each group progressing to the final for a rapid retro run-off in The Ultimate Speedrun. The eight streamers who will be taking part in the challenge are: Rocket Beans TV, Mynthos, Ray Bacon, Joesephyr, VKingPlays, Samora, AnnieFuchsia, and Mr Seto Kami.
However, you don’t have to travel all the way to Paris to watch the Nintendo World Championships Streamer Showdown, because Nintendo will be streaming it live via YouTube from 1400 UTC.
