Nightmare Busters: 2013 SNES Co-Op Classic Could Be Getting a Remake

Nightmare Busters, a Super Nintendo game originally released in 2013, is set to receive a remake titled Nightmare Busters Rebirth. The game is currently in active development and seeking funding through Kickstarter, though no official release date has been announced yet.

The original Nightmare Busters has an interesting history, as it was initially planned for release in the 1990s but didn’t actually see an official release until 2013, making it the final game ever released on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. This late release came years after Frogger (1998) had previously held that title.

Nightmare Busters Rebirth will feature:

  • A complete visual overhaul

  • Updated modern controls

  • Quality-of-life improvements

  • Run-and-gun gameplay similar to Cuphead

  • Two-player cooperative play

The game follows leprechaun brothers Flynn and Floyd as they hunt down nightmarish creatures using projectile weapons while engaging in fast-paced platforming action. The remake is planned for release on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Steam.

For fans of classic SNES platformers, this remake may provide a unique gaming experience that draws inspiration from titles like Mega Man and Metroid while bringing the distinctive gameplay of Nightmare Busters to modern platforms.
