Nightdive Studios, known for reviving hits like Star Wars: Dark Forces, Turok 3, and Quake 2, has just revealed their latest project, expected by few: the game PO’ed.
If you’ve never heard of PO’ed, that’s understandable. PO’ed is a first-person shooter game created and released by Any Channel Inc. in 1995 for the 3DO Interactive Multiplayer. Players control a chef trying to escape an unfriendly alien world. Accolade published a version for the PlayStation in May 1996.
Nightdive Studios announced a remastered edition, PO’ed: Definitive Edition, on April 1, 2024, set for release in 2024 on Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
Nightdive has given us a synopsis of the game:
Taking cues from legendary titles Doom and Quake, PO’ed elevated the first-person shooter genre with its absurdly intense, fast, exaggerated, and all-out gory 3D experience. Players take on the role of a chef stranded on a planet teeming with aliens, brandishing “domestic” weaponry to serve a vengeful retribution (by which we mean revenge, just to be clear).
PO’ed: Definitive Edition is a refreshed take on the 1995 space shooter, soon coming to multiple platforms. This enhanced version boasts improved graphics, smoother edges, faster frame rates, revamped controls, and the potential for 4K 144 FPS gameplay, according to Nightdive.
PO’ed: Definitive Edition’s standout features include, per Nightdive:
An array of gameplay improvements and original game bug fixes that players can switch on or off
Enhanced widescreen support for in-game displays and graphics
An additional tough difficulty setting for seasoned gamers
Fifteen new achievements to unlock
Available language options encompassing English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish
Unrestricted movement, with the ability to traverse 25 diverse 3D spaces by foot or jetpack
