There has been a plethora of versions of Donkey Kong for the ZX Spectrum over the years, many of which have been unofficial ports (such as this new ZX Spectrum Donkey Kong port, which we spotted over on the Spectrum Computing Forum).
There was actually an official ZX Spectrum Donkey Kong port released by Ocean, way back in 1984, back when Nintendo were still happy to license their games to be played non-Nintendo hardware, if you can imagine such a thing!
Unfortunately, Ocean’s official ZX Spectrum Donkey Kong release is generally regarded as being a pretty poor conversion of the game, which has led to this new homebrew ZX Spectrum port by developer Artonapilos, which has been released some 40 years after the official ZX Spectrum Donkey Kong conversion.
If you were lucky enough to get hold of Retro Games Ltd.’s The Spectrum machine, or if you’re the owner of original ZX Spectrum hardware, or you’re a ZX Spectrum emulator user, you can download the new homebrew ZX Spectrum Donkey Kong port in .TAP format from itch.io for for a minimum payment of 5 Euros. It certainly looks like it’ll offer barrels of fun for any Spectrum user!
