Japanese anime Macross is getting a new video game inspired by events of the 40-year-old franchise. Macross -Shooting Insight- releases to Switch and PlayStation on 7th February 2025. It’s also the first official release of a Macross video game for consoles to Western audiences. The game is a multi-directional shmup featuring design elements from renowned Japanese studio Kaminari Games which is well-known for its Raiden V Director’s Cut.

Macross -Shooting Insight- boasts a brand new story set in the long-running series world and five different characters to play as. There are multiple ways to attack from standard horizontal and vertical shooting to complete 360-degree shooting. It also includes various songs from the anime and difficulty settings mixed in with various quality-of-life features such as restarts.

There is also news of a physical edition being released later in the year, including a special edition. While the standard edition will be available from multiple retailers at launch in Europe and North America, Macross -Shooting Insight-’s two special editions are exclusive to Red Art Games’ official online store and Video Games Plus.
