NES adventure Cronela’s Mansion seeks funding

Cronela's Mansion

In October last year, we brought you the news that Cronela’s Mansion, a Maniac Mansion-inspired adventure game currently in development for the NES, was heading for a crowdfunding campaign. The Kickstarter is now well underway with the $125,000 target at the halfway stage. Anyone who backs retro games on crowdfunding sites may feel the target is quite high, but this adventure title is also heading to Famicom, SNES, GBC, GBA and Switch. It certainly is an ambitious project with each port needing different graphics, sounds and controls.

Developer Straynus has described the game’s influences came from the classic point-and-click adventures from veterans Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick. They go on to say Cronela’s Mansion is “a tribute to them and a gift of nostalgia for all their fans.” Those interested in trying before buying can check out the demo of each port in an emulator. There are lots of options to back the project, from digital editions right through to collectors editions which include character plushies as well as other goodies.

At the time of this article being published, there are still 22 days to back the project. We certainly hope it makes it as this is an ambitious project with so many elements that would eclipse the majority of indie homebrew projects out there.
