We previously reported on a Neo Geo Golden Axe port being worked on by homebrew coder Hoffman, who has previously ported one of Sega’s other arcade classics, Shinobi, to Neo Geo. So, then, as the headline states, Hoffman’s Neo Geo Golden Axe port is now available to download, so if you’ve ever wondered what Sega’s classic fantasy brawler would play like on Neo Geo, here’s your chance to find out!

Hoffman says hat his Neo Geo Golden Axe port has been ported from “the Sega System 16 arcade using a combination of reverse engineering and new development to ensure gameplay and visuals match the original to near perfection.”

The game, regarded as an all-time classic of its genre, originally hit arcades back in 1989, receiving ports to many home formats, perhaps most notably to the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, but the game was never ported to Neo Geo, until now, that is.

Features of Hoffman’s Neo Geo Golden Axe port include support for MVS / AES and Neo Geo CD systems, the game’s original arcade difficulty settings, selectable regions (World or Japan), and a special Neo Geo CD soundtrack by game music composer Richard Douglas.
