Namco’s Ridge Racer Joins Arcade Archives 2 for Switch 2 Launch

Namco’s iconic arcade racing game Ridge Racer will be available as a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2 when the console releases on June 5th, 2025. The announcement came during today’s Nintendo Direct presentation, specifically during a rapid-fire section featuring third-party developers.

The game will be part of the Arcade Archives 2 collection. This marks the first time a Ridge Racer game has appeared on a Nintendo console since Ridge Racer 3D in 2011. The original Ridge Racer was initially released in 1993 for the Namco System 22 arcade board and later became a launch title for the original PlayStation.

While specific features for this version haven’t been confirmed yet, previous Arcade Archives 2 releases typically include enhancements such as save states, rewind features, time attack modes, and online play. No information has been shared about versions for other platforms like PS5 or Xbox Series X|S.

The Nintendo Switch 2 itself will launch on June 5th, 2025, priced at $449 for the standalone console and $499 for a bundle that includes Mario Kart World. Pre-orders will begin on April 8th, 2025, initially on an invite-only basis for selected Nintendo Switch Online members.
