The MSX0, a new line of machines from MSX’s co-creator Kazuhiko Nishi, is potentially getting emulation support for several classic gaming systems, including the Nintendo Famicom, NEC’s PC Engine, Atari 2600, and Colecovision/Coleco Adam. This development aims to expand the gaming capabilities of the MSX0 beyond its current ability to play only MSX games.

MSXのこれからにゲームを重点的にサポートする
ということを決心したことはDEVCON7でお知らせしたとおりですが、早速オリジナルのセガエミュレーターでSegaのSG1000のゲームがMSX0Stack上で動きました

Currently, playing MSX games on the MSX0 Stack is a complex process, with limited options for loading ROMs. The proposed emulation support would allow users to play games from other classic systems, but there are significant hurdles to overcome. One of the main concerns is obtaining permission from copyright holders to distribute software legally. Without this permission, there are legal risks involved in distributing emulation software in Japan.

One potential solution being considered is allowing users to copy their own ROMs onto a cartridge, which could then be used with an adapter currently in development for the MSX0. However, plans are still tentative, and no definitive approach has been confirmed. Further updates and clarifications from Nishi and his team are anticipated as they navigate these challenges.
