The Mega Man fan community is enthusiastically crafting a brand-new, fan-created sequel to the cherished 1994 Sega Mega Drive/Genesis anthology, Mega Man: The Wily Wars.
For those who may not know, Mega Man: The Wily Wars was a special Sega collection that revamped the original three NES Mega Man games—Mega Man 1, Mega Man 2, and Mega Man 3—with enhanced graphics, remastered soundtracks, and various gameplay refinements.
The upcoming project, dubbed The Sequel Wars, aims to extend this upgrade to the latter trio of NES titles: Mega Man 4, Mega Man 5, and Mega Man 6. These games are being reconstructed from the ground up in the C programming language, utilizing the SGDK toolkit, and promise to deliver a fresh set of 16-bit remakes complete with glorious new versions of the series’ iconic melodies, a vibrant “16-bit coat of paint”, and a series of enhancements that promise to elevate both the gameplay and overall experience. Woodfrog, accompanied by a passionate group of indie developers, is steering this magnificent endeavor.

Episode Red (the remake of Mega Man 4) was released last year and is available to download now from itch.io, while the Mega Man Sequel Wars Twitter account has just released a new tease of Episode Blue (the remake of Mega Man 5). There’s no estimated release time for when this latest episode will drop, other than that it will apparently be “coming soon”
