Fans of the Mega Man Legends series can now experience a previously lost title, Rockman DASH: Great Adventure on 5 Islands, in English for the first time. This game, originally released episodically in 2008 for Japanese i-mode feature phones, was preserved by the SciLab Secrets team in late 2023 after being delisted and effectively lost in 2018. Now, thanks to an English translation patch developed by Mega Alex, players worldwide can enjoy this unique entry in the Mega Man Legends universe.

The game is set between the first two Mega Man Legends titles and spans five distinct islands, each containing seven missions. The gameplay faithfully replicates classic Legends mechanics, including lock-on targeting, circle-strafing, crafting special weapons, interacting with NPCs, and completing side quests. Despite its origins on limited hardware, the game delivers a full-fledged adventure with a storyline that captures the spirit of the series.

The translation process was complex due to technical limitations. While cutscene scripts were translated years ago by Midori, menus and NPC dialogue had to be translated from scratch. Mega Alex painstakingly edited files byte by byte using a hex editor, overcoming challenges like space limitations caused by differences between Japanese and English text sizes. Preservationist Yuvi assisted with modifying string lengths to accommodate longer text. The patch took seven months to complete and includes both localized and delocalized versions for character names (e.g., “MegaMan” vs. “Rockman”).

To access the game, players need to download the Keitai World Launcher developed by Yuvi. The launcher is compatible with Windows 10 and higher. After installation, users can select their preferred version of the English patch and begin playing. It’s recommended to use a controller for the best experience, as the game features 3D environments similar to the mainline Legends titles.
