Lethal Wedding: New Retro Shooter Announced For Sega Genesis and Mega Drive

Lethal Wedding is a new top-down shooter game for the Sega Genesis and Mega Drive, developed by Mega Cat Studios. The game is set to launch on Kickstarter on November 4, 2024. It draws inspiration from classic 16-bit shooters like Zombies Ate My Neighbors, combining elements of action movies and RPGs with a modern twist for enhanced replayability and progression.

The storyline of Lethal Wedding revolves around a chaotic scenario where a drug ring of criminal clowns crashes a bachelor party and kidnaps the groom. Players take on the roles of the bride-to-be and her mother-in-law as they embark on a mission to rescue him from a variety of bizarre foes, including psychopathic circus performers and mobsters.

 

The game features intense couch co-op gameplay for two players, allowing for collaborative action. It showcases unique weapons, such as an explosive gun of roses and a banana SMG, enhancing the shooting experience. Character customization is extensive, with over 25 upgrades available that make each playthrough distinct. The Vow System introduces a risk/reward mechanic, where players fulfill specific vows at the start of each stage to earn bonuses. Players can explore more than 30 diverse levels filled with action-packed scenarios. The narrative delves into themes like mother-daughter relationships and wedding stress, supported by animated cutscenes. Overall, the game aims to provide a nostalgic yet innovative experience for retro-style shooter enthusiasts, blending humor with engaging gameplay.
