Freedom Wars Remaster Announced for PS5, Switch, and PC, Coming in 2025

The cult-classic PlayStation Vita game Freedom Wars is set to return with a new remastered version. Originally released in 2014, this action RPG developed by Dimps and published by Sony will be available on January 10, 2025, for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. The remaster is being published by Bandai Namco and includes various enhancements such as upgraded graphics with 4K resolution support, 60 frames per second performance, and an overhauled weapon crafting system.

Freedom Wars
is set in a dystopian future where humanity lives in massive prison complexes called Panopticons due to the scarcity of resources. Players take on the role of “Sinners,” individuals sentenced to a million years in prison simply for existing. The game involves participating in dangerous missions to reduce this sentence, fighting against rival Panopticons and rescuing citizens from abductions. The remastered version will also feature quality-of-life improvements, including new difficulty settings and refined controls.

The announcement of the remaster has sparked interest among fans of the original game, particularly in Japan, where it was highly popular. The developers have expressed hopes that the success of this remaster could lead to the possibility of a sequel. This release provides an opportunity for both new players and longtime fans to experience Freedom Wars with modern enhancements while retaining its unique gameplay mechanics and narrative.
