Final Blow Punches out of the Arcade Archives

2 Final Blow boxers with referee.

Final Blow, a 1989 boxing arcade game by Taito, is the latest release from Hamster Corporation’s Arcade Archives series. As usual, the latest Arcade Archives game is available on both PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.

In Final Blow, players choose from one of five boxers and compete against the remaining four to become champion. In the game, in addition to weak, medium, and strong punches, you can also use switch between low and high blows to take advantage of your opponent’s openings.

If you’re a Sega fan you may know the game as James ‘Buster’ Douglas Knockout Boxing, which is what Final Blow was renamed as for its Genesis and Master System conversions outside of Japan, following Buster Douglas’ surprise defeat of Mike Tyson in 1990. Maybe Hamster Corp. missed a trick in not renaming this 2024 re-release of the game as ’Logan Paul Knockout Boxing’. Er, maybe not!

In addition to the ports of the game for Sega consoles, Final Blow was also ported to Commodore 64, Commodore Amiga, Atari ST and FM Towns, but, of course, Hamster Corporation‘s Arcade Archives release of the game features the arcade original of Final Blow The game  can be played by either one or two players and is available now from the PS Store and the Nintendo eshop.
