Nothing pleases us more than hearing of new games for old consoles. Farming Simulator 16-Bit Edition has been announced for Mega Drive and is a demake of the popular Farming Simulator series. Retro publisher Strictly Limited has teamed up with GIANTS Software to bring this modern classic to the Mega Drive. Farming Simulator has sold more than 40 million copies since it was first introduced in 2008. The game includes real machinery from farming brands and “offers compelling agricultural simulation with relaxing, family-friendly gameplay”.
The demake will include beautiful pixel art and use an isometric view that reminds us a little of Desert Strike in the way it looks. There are digitised sounds from the real world of farming, including from the tractor engines, and the catchy chiptune soundtrack has been composed by veteran composer Christopher Hülsbeck, known for many of the great retro soundtracks such as Star Wars: Rogue Squadron and Turrican.
There will be several versions of Farming Simulator 16-Bit Edition available with all expected to be shipped by May 2025. The most basic being a black cartridge retail version that will be available from select retailers such as Amazon. For those who enjoy collecting things, however, the deluxe and limited editions will be exclusively available from Strictly Limited, which includes a green cartridge and is limited to 1,000 copies of each. The limited edition will cost €49.99, while the deluxe edition, which includes additional collectible content, will be priced at €69.99.
In a press statement, the Strictly Limited said, “This limited edition is the result of a unique collaboration with game publisher and developer GIANTS Software, following the success of their Farming Simulator 25 Collector’s Edition, which launched in November 2024. The Collector’s Edition featured a retro cartridge-style version, which received overwhelmingly positive feedback from both fans and collectors. The response was so strong that it prompted GIANTS Software to explore a standalone, retro version—leading to this dedicated 16-bit release with Strictly Limited.”
