The Sega Mega Drive / Genesis classic Revenge of Shinobi is being remade by a fan for the 32-bit Sega Saturn. The remake, created by Pigsy using Johannes Fetz’s JoEngine, will feature more background layers, improved colors, better animation, a CD-quality soundtrack, and more open level design.
Originally released in Japan as The Super Shinobi in 1989, the game is a sequel to the arcade release Shinobi from 1987 and is known for its incredible soundtrack by Yuzo Koshiro. The Shinobi series also includes titles like Shadow Dancer and Shinobi III. The Saturn had its own entry in the series called Shin Shinobi Den / Shinobi X / Shinobi Legions, although it was poorly received and Sega passed on publishing it in North America.
