Project Arroyo is a fan-made remake of Fallout 2, transforming the classic ’90s isometric RPG into a 3D style game. Led by Damion Daponte and supported by over 100 developers, the project is making significant progress, sharing regular updates on Twitter showcasing new models and locations. Daponte aims to bring the game to modern audiences by reimagining it as a true open world, expanding on locations like San Francisco in a similar manner to Fallout 4’s Boston.
While the completion of such ambitious fan projects takes time, Daponte envisions releasing Project Arroyo on Steam, following the example set by Enderal: Forgotten Stories, a Skyrim mod. Launching on Steam could potentially make it compatible with the Steam Deck, as even unofficially supported games can be adjusted to run on the handheld device. Daponte is open to the possibility of adapting the Fallout 2 remake for the Steam Deck, although the feasibility of mods on the platform remains to be explored.
