Evercade Highlight of the Month is a new programme for Evercade consoles, replacing the previous Evercade Game of the Month programme, which showcased new neo-retro titles on Evercade consoles, which were playable by updating the system software each month. As ot turns out, December 2024’s Evercade Game of the Month, Murtop, on which we previously reported was to be the final Evercade Game of the Month, at least for now.
Evercade Game of the Month has been replaced by Evercade Highlight of the Month for 2025, which is a similar programme, but rather than offering a new game, Evercade Highlight of the Month downloads a title from the Evercade back catalogue to users’ consoles, giving them a chance to try a game from a previous Evercade release that they may have missed.
Blaze Entertainment had this to say about the Evercade Highlight of the Month programme: “With Evercade, you can play over 500 games across more than 50 cartridges, and we’ve been continually releasing new collections for the platform since 2020. If you’re new to Evercade, you might not have taken the time to explore some of the games that came out early in Evercade’s lifespan — and if you’re an experienced veteran, it might have been a while since you spent some time with these games.
That’s what our Highlight of the Month programme is all about. Each month, we’ll be picking out an individual game from our back catalogue and showcasing it directly from the Evercade menu. You can play the game for free, even if you don’t own the cartridge it’s on, until the next Highlight of the Month shows up. It’s a great chance to catch up on some titles you might have missed or learn a bit more about some games you might not have played for a while, and it’s a great opportunity for the community to all explore a game together at the same time, which will make for some fun discussions on blogs, videos, podcasts and social media, we’re sure!”
The first Evercade Highlight of the Month is now live, and is available by updating to the latest system software. This Month’s Evercade Highlight of the Month is the Genesis version of Data East’s run ‘n’ gun title Midnight Resistance, which was released on Evercade on the Data East Collection 1 cartridge.
