Doom 64 is the latest classic game to be ported to Dreamcast by enterprising homebrew developers. It was just last week that we reported that Grand Theft Auto 3 was now playable on Dreamcast via the DCA 3 project, and now, we’ve learned via Immorpher on X that Doom 64 has also been ported to Dreamcast!
Doom 64 is, of course, the Nintendo 64 spin-off from John Carmack’s seminal first-person shooter Doom. Doom 64 was first released on Nintendo 64 back in 1997, and while Doom 64 has been released on several modern formats in recent years, you can now also play it on your Dreamcast, with the promise of enhancements including running at twice the original resolution (at 60 FPS), dynamic lights, two bonus episodes, and analog strafing. The Dreamcast version of Doom 64 also offers VMU saving and the ability to play with keyboard and mouse. You can find the link to download Doom 64’s Dreamcast source code, and a compiled ELF file via the description on this YouTube video.
Who knows what classic game will be ported to Dreamcast next? Whatever it may be, it’s clear that there’s life in Sega’s beloved white box yet!
