A group of ROM hackers and modders is developing an ambitious unofficial Super Mario game titled “Mario and the Multiverse,” drawing inspiration from Super Mario 64. This game will feature Mario alongside characters from various franchises, including Pokémon, Splatoon, and Doom. The project is led by Rovertronic, the creator of Mario Builder 64, and includes a diverse team of contributors with a range of skill levels.
Rovertronic has stated that while the patch will be compatible with original N64 hardware, it is not optimized for performance, making it primarily suitable for emulators. The project is approaching completion but still requires considerable polishing, and a specific release date has yet to be announced.
