The CLC-92 Compu is a newly announced computer and game console designed by Catrin Labs. It draws inspiration from the 16-bit era of gaming, incorporating modern enhancements to suit today’s gaming environment.

Design and Inspiration: The CLC-92 is inspired by the 16-bit generation of computers and consoles but includes improvements such as widescreen support, easy storage solutions, and internet access for specific tasks like downloading content or accessing network services.

Hardware Specifications:

  • CPU: Motorola 68000 as the main CPU.
  • Audio CPU: Zilog Z80.
  • Memory: 4MB total RAM (including VRAM).
  • Video Capabilities: Features a custom video chip with a 480×270 widescreen mode, a 64K color palette, hardware scrolling, multiple background layers, and support for sprites.
  • Audio Capabilities: Includes a custom audio chip with 18 switchable PCM/FM voices, filters, and channel effects.

Software and Development: The CLC-92 serves as a platform for new games, which can run on various hardware through a virtual machine. This includes compatibility with devices like Android TV, PC/Mac/Linux, Steam Deck, and even its own FPGA-based console.

The console supports game development through an SDK that includes an emulator, a C compiler for the Motorola 68000, assemblers for both CPUs, graphics and audio tools, and sample music.

Release Information: The CLC-92 is set to be released later in 2024. It is being developed in collaboration with Abstract Digital to provide comprehensive tools and demos for developers.
