Hamster Corporation have been releasing emulated arcade titles on a weekly basis on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 under the Arcade Archives banner since 2014, and they’re showing no signs of slowing down in 2025, with the rather obscure Castle of Dragon announced as the first Arcade Archives release of 2025.
Castle of Dragon was originally released in arcades by Japanese developers Athena in 1989, and the game was originally titled “Dragon Unit” in its native Japan.
In Castle of Dragon, two young kings set out on a journey to a castle inhabited by dragons, with the aim of rescuing a captured princess.
Castle of Dragon is a 2D side-scrolling action platform game which is somewhat in the vein of the Capcom classic ghosts ‘n’ Goblins, and it received a home conversion for the NES in 1990, but now PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch owners can enjoy the original arcade version of Castle of Dragon from the comfort of their own homes, thanks to Hamster Corporation’s Arcade Archives series.
The Arcade Archives release of Castle of Dragon is set for release of the Nintendo eshop and the PS Store tomorrow (2 January 2025).
