Broke Studio, on whose Homebrew Factory publishing platform we reported recently have taken to X to tease that they are set to publish three games that have never before been published outside Japan.
Broke Studio have said that the games in question will be Famicom and Game Boy games, and that the releases will be official, translated, and “100% physical”. The games will also be enhanced from their original releases, in an as yet unspecified way. While we don’t yet know what the three games in question are, Broke Studio have revealed that they are all by the the defunct Japanese developers Jaleco.
Broke Studio are working in conjunction with City Connection and Omake Books to release the games.
Release dates for the games have not yet been announced by Broke Studio, but they have confirmed that they will be announcing the first of the three titles on Monday April 21, 2025.
One of the great things about being a retro gamer in the futuristic year of 2025 AD is that we finally get to play a whole host o games that originally never saw release outside of Japan, or translated into English such as the three mystery Jaleco games that Broke Studio are set to release, and Sunsoft’s Feudal Bros – Tonosama #1, on which we recently reported.
Some Famicom games that Jaleco only released in Japan were Exerion (1985), Formation Z (1985), Ninja-Kun: Adventure of Devil Castle, Field Combat (1985), City Connection (1985), Ninja JaJaMaru-kun(1985), Field Combat, Argus (1986), and JaJaMaru no Daibouken, so maybe some of these will be amongst the three titles set to be released by Broke Studio?
Some Game Boy games that Jaleco only released in Japan were Hero Shuugou!! Pinball Party (1990), Banishing Racer (1991), Ikari no Yousai 2 (1992), Dirty Racing (1993), and Soldam (1993), could any of these be seeing a Western release from Broke Studio? We’ll find out soon, we guess!
