It was recently announced that Boulder Dash 40th Anniversary will be released in Q1 of 2025 for PC, Mac, Switch, Xbox and PlayStation, with a playable version of the game debuting at Gamescom back in August, and soon, we’ll all have a chance to experience Boulder Dash 40th Anniversary when a free demo is released on Steam for PC and Mac this December.
The full game will include all the levels from Boulder Dash, Boulder Dash 2, and Boulder Dash 3, and some of the best fan-created Boulder Dash levels made by fans from around the world. So, if you fancy yourself as a Boulder Dash level designer, the game’s publishers, BBG Entertainment has set up a Discord channel, where you can submit your levels, and read the latest development news on the game.
Celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2024, Boulder Dash is a beloved subterranean platform puzzler which was was first released for 8-bit home computers in 1984, most notably for the Commodore 64, before being ported to a number of other formats, including an arcade version in 1985, with NES and Game Boy versions following in 1990.
Boulder Dash 40th Anniversary will be published by BBG Entertainment, who are based in Munich, Germany, and who aim to make games “fun for the whole family even decades after their initial publication.” Now, that’s a mission statement we can all “dig”!
