Beyond the Ice Palace II, the highly anticipated sequel to the 1988 side-scrolling action platformer, has been delayed and is now scheduled for release on March 13, 2025. Originally planned for a 2024 release, this delay affects all platforms, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG. The game will be available both physically and digitally on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch.
Developed by Storybird Studio and published by PQube and PixelHeart, Beyond the Ice Palace II continues the legacy of its predecessor by offering a retro gaming experience with modern enhancements. Players assume the role of the “Cursed King,” embarking on a dark fantasy adventure filled with vengeance and redemption. Armed with chains that once imprisoned him, the protagonist must navigate treacherous landscapes, solve puzzles, and battle monstrous foes to reclaim his throne.
The game features dynamic combat mechanics that allow players to use their chains for both attacking enemies and traversing the environment. As players explore the kingdom’s hidden areas, they can uncover treasures and collect power crystals to enhance their abilities. The game’s art style merges retro-inspired pixel art with contemporary gameplay elements, aiming to appeal to both longtime fans and newcomers.
The delay allows for additional polish and improvements to ensure a high-quality experience upon release. Fans can look forward to an immersive soundtrack composed by Allister Brimble, known for his work on various iconic video games. A new trailer showcasing these features has been released alongside the announcement of the revised launch date.
