Battle Balls will be this week’s Arcade Archives release from Hamster Corporation for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.
Known by the name of “Senkyu” in Japan, Battle Balls is an arcade puzzle game that was released into arcades by Seibu Kaihatsu in 1995, with a PlayStation port following later that same year.
Seibu Kaihatsu are a somewhat lesser-known Japanese video game company, who formed in 1982, closing in 1998 after declaring bankruptcy, but thanks to Hamster Corporation’s dedication to unearthing arcade games out of the Arcade Archives, we can now enjoy one of Seibu Kaihatsu’s games once more!
Hamster Corporation describe Senkyu/Battle Balls as follows: “The game is played by connecting four or more balls of the same color and erasing them to create a chain of four or more balls of the same color, aiming for a high score.
In addition to the skill tester Mode, where you can judge your own skill, you can also participate in the Senkyu tournament and aim for the victory in the normal mode, as well as engage in two-player versus battles.” Sounds like a load of balls to us (but in a good way!)
Battle Balls/Senkyu will be released on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 this Friday, March 21 2025. The Arcade Archives release will feature the Japanese Senkyu ROM of the game.
