Atari and Plaion have announced an upcoming updated version of the Atari 7800, which originally launched in the United States in 1986.
The Atari 7800+ will accommodate both 2600 and 7800 game cartridges, connect seamlessly to any HDMI television, and offer options for widescreen or 4:3 display formats.
Included with the console is a wireless CX78+ gamepad, which replicates the classic CX78 controller design, as well as a cartridge of the game Bentley Bear’s Crystal Quest and a USB-C charging cable.
In conjunction with this announcement, Atari has revealed a selection of new 2600 and 7800 games, each priced at $29.99 / £24.99 / €29.99. The titles include:
Asteroids Deluxe (7800+)
Bounty Bob Strikes Back (7800+)
Bentley Bear’s Crystal Quest (7800+)
Berzerk (7800+)
Frenzy (7800+)
Space Duel (7800+)
Caverns of Mars (2600+)
Epyx Game Collection (2600+) – featuring Summer Games, Winter Games, and California Games
M Network Collection (2600+) – including Armor Ambush, Astroblast, Frogs and Flies, and Star Strike
RealSports Collection (2600+) – comprising RealSports Baseball, Football, Volleyball, Soccer, Tennis, and Boxing, along with the never-before-released RealSports Basketball
Wade Rosen, CEO and Chairman of Atari, highlighted in a press release, “Expanding the Atari+ platform with new games, new wireless controllers, and the 7800+ console is a perfect follow-up to last year’s successful launch of the Atari 2600+.”
The console is priced at $129.99/£99.99/€119.99 and is currently available for pre-order on Atari’s website. A Mega Bundle is also available, which includes an additional CX30+ Paddle Set, a CX40+ Joystick, and two DB9 Extension Cables.
