The A1200 Maxi is planned a full-sized replica of Commodore’s 32-bit A1200 Amiga home computer, and was (and hopefully still is) to be Retro Games Ltd.’s follow up to their “The A500 Mini,” which was a mini replica of Commodore’s 16-bit Amiga Home computer, the A500.
Retro Games Ltd. have had great success with their home computer replicas, notably last year’s The Spectrum (replicating the 8-bit ZX Spectrum), and THE64, which was a replica of the 8-bit Commodore 64, as well as THEVIC20, a replica of Commodore’s earlier 8-bit Vic 20 home computer.
But even though Retro Games Ltd. have revealed that their next planned home computer replica was (and we hope still is) to be of the 32-bit Amiga 1200, in the form of the A1200 Maxi, they’ve also reported some bad news on the machine’s release.
Sadly, due to legal issues from Hyperion Entertainment, the current rights holders of AmigaOS, the A1200 Maxi is currently delayed. The machine was originally intended to be released in Q1 of 2025, but Retro Games Ltd. are unable to proceed with the A1200 Maxi’s release until these legal issues are resolved. All hope is not lost, as Retro Games Ltd. Have stated that they are “working tirelessly to resolve this issue.”
Retro Games Ltd. have also promised to share “more details about the machine itself. Including images, features and software line-up, including one brand new game, as soon as is practically possible.” We wish Retro Games Ltd. The best of luck in solving these legal issues as quickly and amicably as possible. You can read Retro Games Ltd.‘s statement on the A1200 Maxi for yourself on their X account..
