A rare prototype of a Super Famicom ( Super Nintendo ) has been put up for auction in Japan. This model closely resembles the final version released in Japan and Europe, but it features a unique red power switch, a front-facing expansion port (instead of the bottom), and a 3.5mm headphone jack with volume control on the side. The highest bid on Yahoo Japan is 703,009 yen (about $4570), with expectations that the final selling price will surpass this substantially. The prototype also includes its original Nintendo ‘development sample’ label and is one of several documented prototypes from that time period.
