X-Men ’97: The Classic Cartoon Levels Up with a Nostalgic Gaming Twist

Disney+ has revived the classic ’90s X-Men cartoon with X-Men ’97, continuing the original storyline. The newest installment nods to long-time X-Men enthusiasts with references to their video game past, especially the beloved 1992 Konami arcade game. In the fourth episode, “Motendo / Lifedeath,” characters Jubilee and newcomer Roberto are sucked into a gaming console by the villain Mojo during Jubilee’s 18th birthday, offering a nostalgic twist for fans of the classic X-Men animation and video games.
