Five new Atari carts announced and up for pre-order

For all the chatter about the Switch 2 being a final nail in the physical gaming coffin due to its new game cards not having game data, Atari are bucking the digital trend and releasing five new carts. Tiger-Heli, Countermeasure 2, Dark Chambers, Super Circus, and Avalanche are now up for pre-order on Atari’s webshop. Each game will run on the new Atari 2600+ and Atari 7800+ consoles as well as the specific older console the game was designed for.

Tiger-Heli, Countermeasure 2, Dark Chambers, and Super Circus are all dedicated 7800 titles, so they won’t run on the original 2600 consoles. However, Avalanchance was developed with the old 2600 in mind and will run on everything. Each new Atari cart costs $29.99, and the pre-orders are due to be shipped in July 2025, although some of the listings also show a June 2025 date. All the new releases come packed with the game cart itself as well as a manual and an outer box in that classic Atari design from the 80s.

Although many of these titles had releases back in the day, each one has been recrafted with modern features and fixes that elevate the experience to be the best it can be. It’s remarkable to think that Atari was once blighted with financial issues, but in the last few years, the brand has really taken off again with a slew of new mini consoles and computers as well as a growing range of remastered classics.
