Chrono Trigger Celebrates 30th Anniversary with Projects Outside the Game World

Square Enix has announced plans to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the iconic RPG Chrono Trigger throughout 2025, revealing that various projects extending beyond the gaming world are in development. Originally released on March 11, 1995, Chrono Trigger is widely regarded as one of the greatest RPGs ever made and was created by a “Dream Team” consisting of Yuji Horii (Dragon Quest), Akira Toriyama (Dragon Ball), and Hironobu Sakaguchi (Final Fantasy).

The anniversary celebrations will include several projects that transcend traditional video game media, although Square Enix has not yet detailed exactly what these projects will entail. The announcement specifically indicated that these initiatives will go beyond gaming, suggesting possibilities such as special events, concerts, stage plays, collaborations, and other multimedia experiences. The announcement emphasized gratitude toward fans who have supported Chrono Trigger over the past three decades.

As part of the anniversary celebration, Square Enix has announced a special Chrono Trigger Music Live Stream scheduled for March 14–15, 2025, on the Square Enix Music YouTube channel.

While many fans have hoped for a remake or remaster of Chrono Trigger—particularly an HD-2D remake similar to Octopath Traveler or Dragon Quest 3—the wording suggests such a project is unlikely at this time. The company has not provided details about specific projects yet but encouraged fans to follow official social media channels for further announcements throughout the year.
